Gitane guitars copy the original Macaferri/Selmer guitars favored by Django Reinhardt and other “hot club” Gypsy players of the 1930s. Guitars of this style were always too expensive for frugal players and beginners - but Gitane changed this equation. Don't wait - order now! You won't regret it. 866 884 6546 toll free.

Gitane makes a somewhat confusing range of guitars
The primary division in these guitars is whether they have a large “D” hole giving great feedback to the player, or have a smaller oval hole. The D-500 D hole and DG-250M birdseye maple oval hole are the most popular models. The D-500 has a short 12 fret net and a relatively wide 1 7/8" nut, as did the original classical-influenced Maccaferri design. The others have more modern 14-fret necks and 1 3/4" nut.
All Gitane guitars have:
- Solid spruce top
- Squared off cutaway
- Moustache adjustable bridge
- Thin, rather comfortable bound neck
- Dovetail neck joint
- Adjustable truss rod
- Bone nut
- Zero fret
- Trapeze tailpiece that accepts either ball or loop end
strings
- “Gitane” strings and extra loose John Pearse "Nuages"

We handle a small range of cases and allow upgrades, although some cases may have to be ordered in.
Because a variety of players use these guitars for a range of applications, we provide these instruments with low, medium, or high actions at your request. Action adjustments below "high" are permanent and incur a restock fee.
