Antonio Loriente "Marieta" Rosewood Classical Concert
Guitar
French Polish Top - $3300 list - call or email for price

The Loriente line is made in Valencia, Spain, completely by hand using
traditional techniques.  No shortcuts.  With focus on current high
standards for intonation, volume, and balance.  Materials are first class.
Each top is selected from precisely quartered wood.  The backs and
sides are selected for beauty and acoustic quality.

This guitar, the Marieta is a very well done standard classical guitar in
rosewood and cedar. As a trained classical guitarist, I appreciate the
Marieta's playing and performance character. Even the new ones are
almost as lush as my concert guitar, although the cost is highly
competitive. Not a shy guitar. Fast response, bold, incisive, easily
shaped dynamics & tone. And the tone – quite harmonically rich and
complex. Stylistically, the Marieta is a tribute to the second epoch of
Torres. Classic meander-pattern or chain rosette, very elegant.

Perhaps most important, the Marieta is really a delight to play. It's simply
easy to make good music. I can sit down and sight read through complex
pieces and not notice I'm playing a guitar new to me – except that it's
actually easier to play than my usual guitar. The dynamics, the tone
color, making shifts, everything is there.  Doesn't cross my mind at all
that I'm playing something that is priced like a student level instrument. If
it acts like a concert instrument, then it is a concert instrument in my
mind.

The Marieta comes in the Protege, a rather good wood shell Humicase,
blue plush interior. I like these cases better than the one I use, but I
don't go anywhere with a guitar anymore, so no point in upgrading! But
if I did, this would be on the very short list of cases I like.
