  Picks

Gypsy jazz players favor thick picks, as do most mandolin players.
Traditional picks were of tortoise, bone, horn, and exotic wood.  They’
re around 3 mm thick.  The tips are somewhat more rounded than
modern picks.  The edges are asymmetrically beveled to aid clean
attack on both up and down strokes.  Most modern picks are made of
plastic, but horn picks are available.   Pick choice depends on many
things.  What type of guitar, what strings, lead or rhythm, and other
preferences govern the optimum choice.  We are often out of
particular models - call for availability!
